Coos County ARES/RACES Mobile Communications

The Coos County ARES/RACES team has a capable mobile communications trailer that can be deployed for long periods of time or in remote area as required by Emergency Management. The units size and weight allow it to be pulled by most vehicles easily and makes for quick maneuvering in tight places or on narrow roads.

The small yet very capable unit consists of multiple radio and antenna combinations that allow communications near or far. Public service radios allow for direct contact with county and state agencies while Amateur Radios connect with other ARES or EMCOMM groups to pass emergency traffic. We also have the capability for Marine, CB, and GMRS/FRS bands.

As you can see from the image above we have Honda Generators to supply power in remote ares where we do not have access to the grid. We also have solar panels on the roof of the trailer and a battery bank that allow us to work as needed and to keep the batteries charged and ready.

The ARES/RACES Unit also maintains a stash of Amateur Radio “Go Boxes,” consisting of radios and related equipment that can be deployed out in the field where needed adding to coverage area for large incidents. A cache of smaller portable Hammo-Can radio set ups consisting of a radio, antenna, and battery pack, inside a small metal ammunition box allow for quick deployment and to improve coverage as well.
