FM Simplex Exercise

For Tuesday August 11th Coos ARES/RACES meeting.

Prepare for practicing Simplex relay, develop contact chains.

Below, find the Matrix we started filling out at our meeting May 11th.

The file is in spreadsheet format, so you will need Microsoft Excel or another spreadsheet program to open it. You can then either print it or keep it on your computer. It is large so if you try to print it will need legal size paper and the print will still be small.

Use this and fill it in when you make simplex VHF contacts, so you will have a living document that shows you who you can normally contact directly. Every so often as we fill in our own Matrix, we will share with the group, so it will show who we can use to relay messages to, to get traffic from one end of the county to the other.

This can be used at any time, and we can expand the matrix as needed for new or more operators as they join in. If you are not already on the Matrix, please add yourself to the top and left column.

We will start this on Saturday at 10 am during our Simulated Emergency Training. I encourage everyone who is available to join in on this exercise.

Please tune into the 145.190 (-) 146.2 Bennett Butte Repeater (CH. 3) at 10AM. I will monitor this repeater for the duration of the exercise.

We will be using our ARES Tac Frequencies (Tac 1 147.440 CH. 12, Tac 2 147.460 CH. 13, Tac 3 147.480 CH. 14, Tac 4 147.500 CH. 15, and the ARES Check in Frequency 147.420 CH. 11. Please make sure you have them programmed into your radios.

This spreadsheet can be printed on 8  1/2 x 11 paper if you do it half at a time width-wise (don’t forget to include the first column when you print the right half of the matrix).
